Last night was extremely sucessful for dampers - something even I've not done over a fire before.
Spread over with Jam they were consumed within minutes!
Everyone knew what they were doing, so I had nothing better to do than try out my new Kelly Kettle (lighting it with my Sweedish Steel rather than matches) and have a cuppa!
You should try "Ash bread". Similar to dampers, but you put the bread dough directly on the hot coals. When it's done, you simply brush the ash off and eat it. I think they are much nicer then standard dampers.
I'm an ASL (Assistant Scout Leader) for 4th Rochford Scouts in Essex.
This blog is sharing what we as a troop do and some of the methods we use to teach!
We believe that scouting should be an everyday adventure, but we can't just meet once a week to do this - that's why we've got a weekend work crew where the scouts can learn new skills and make their HQ more to do with them in addition to the usual troop activities and camps!
